Tara Sonenshine, U.S. Under Secretary of State for Public Diplomacy & Public Affairs, spoke to the J-Conference during the dinner program Monday evening. The Under Secretary endorsed the concept of citizen diplomacy and highlighted how it should be used to engage citizens around the world. She also spoke about the special relationship between Japan and the United States, and emphasized the importance of that relationship in the future.
