A vehicle's Title proves ownership and discloses any financial liens. Vehicle owners should have an original copy of their Title for their records as the document is required for important admin (i.e., successfully selling/trading in a car, transferring TLC plates to a new vehicle).

When you purchase a vehicle from a new or pre-owned dealership, they will transfer over ownership and the DMV (or dealership) will send you a copy of the Title, typically within 2 to 4 weeks after purchase.
