Attorney Dan Krause talks about the importance of estate planning if you are in a second marriage (or third, fourth, etc.). If you have children that are not your spouse's children, there can be a big disagreement after you die about who gets your stuff.
You should not leave it to the state law to decide who gets your stuff, because that can end up in a big mess when you die. Your surviving spouse may be left impoverished or your children may be left disinherited.
