Mali's Interim President and Prime Minister have resigned, two days after they were detained by the military. Their resignations came today during a visit by a delegation from the Economic Community of West African States, (Ecowas). The news was relayed by an aide to Colonel Assimi Goita, Mali's Interim Vice President and leader of an August coup d'etat.
His soldiers arrested President Bah Ndaw and Prime Minister Moctar Ouane on Monday evening.
The African Union is asking for a more peaceful transition to a constitutional government.
