The immensely powerful Chamunda Maa mantra is also stated as the Chandi mantra or Navarna Mantra. The powerful Mantra, Om Aim Hreem Kleem Chamundaye Vichche Namah is one of the most powerful mantra of Chamunda Devi. Chamunda Devi is stated as the wrathful form of Goddess Durga. Also known as Maa Shakti, she loves all her devotees as her children.

The term “Chamunda” is derived from two words, ”Chanda” and ”Munda,”. According to Hindu mythology, they were two monsters killed by the powerful Goddess. As the legend states, from the frown of Goddess Parvati, Chamunda Maa appeared to kill powerful and evil demons – Chanda and Munda. The great Goddess is viewed as a form of Goddess Parvati.

Being a Matrika, Chamunda Devi is also stated as one of the chief Yoginis. She is portrayed with four, eight, ten or twelve arms, holding a skull-cup (kapala), filled with blood, panapatra (drinking vessel, wine cup), severed head, thunderbolt, skull-mace (khatvanga), snake, sword, trishula (trident), and Damaru (drum).
