For Sale: Ortho-Flex Custom Saddle. S.N. D001
I restored this saddle and made some changes to the panels, so it is no longer a pure “Ortho-Flex” saddle. Please watch the video so that you can understand how it has been altered. You’ll see that it retains its spirit. For starters, I altered the size of the panels. The smaller size is closer to traditional stuffed panels, but they are flatter and wider (like all Ortho-Flex saddles) and thus they distribute the riders weight more than a traditional saddle. The shorter length of the panels allows for more movement in the horse’s shoulders. The panels are also mounted differently (the original hardware was completely shot) and thus they flex different from the original (I explain the differences in the video). I also added a custom Velcro cover to match the contour of the new panels and allow riders to attach shims to fit any horse. A ThinLine saddle pad rests inside the cover for extra shock absorption. This saddle does NOT use Ortho-Flex saddle pads/covers. It doesn’t need them. The modified panels can be used with a traditional saddle pad or blanket. Although I have my own leather shop, I am not a saddle maker, so further alterations to this or other Ortho-Flex saddles is best left to the experts. I made these modifications for use with my own horse only to discover that my long frame is not suited to this saddle. I did not intend to invent something new. I simply wanted to bring this beautiful saddle to life again and use it on my horse.

There are minor scratches on the seat, which measures 17”. I replaced the stirrup straps (which were completely rotted) with waterproof Biothane and Chicago screws so that they can be adjusted up or down. The saddle includes Biothane stirrup leathers (which I made), but they are very long (I’m 6’6”), so you’ll probably want to use your own.

This saddle is sold as is and I cannot service it if something goes wrong in the future. No returns. I rode it several times and had friends test it in a variety of settings and they (horse and rider) seemed to like it very much.
