The Sierra Leone Agro-Industrial Cluster Project (SL RAIC) is funded by the African Development Bank and the Government of Sierra Leone. The project aims to increase rice production and achieve rice self-sufficiency in the country.
The SL RAIC project is building resilience in the rice sector by:
Providing a well-equipped mechanical workshop at Njala University
Supporting over 756 farmers in Bonthe and Pujehun districts with inputs for large-scale rice production
Providing continuous extension services to enhance increased production
The project has already made significant progress. The mechanical workshop at Njala University with the ongoing construction of the mechanical workshop. The workshop will provide farmers with access to high-quality agricultural machinery and equipment, which will help them to increase their production and productivity.
The project has also supported over 756 farmers in Bonthe and Pujehun districts with inputs for large-scale rice production. This includes providing farmers with seeds, fertilizers, and pesticides. The project has also provided farmers with training on good agricultural practices.
The project is also providing continuous extension services to farmers. Extension officers are working with farmers to help them improve their rice production practices. The extension officers are also providing farmers with information on the latest agricultural technologies and innovations.
