The Working Life Balance and Miscellaneous Provisions Bill implements the EU work-life balance directive, which must be incorporated into Irish law by 2nd August 2022. This proposed legislation will give parents and caregivers new rights to help them achieve a better work-life balance.
Some of the major changes that are expected to be implemented as part of the Work Life Balance Bill include:
• The right to request flexible working,
• The extension of breastfeeding breaks from six months to 2 years
• Five days of leave per year for medical care purposes
The legislation is expected to be passed and enacted by the August 2022 deadline.
Employers should begin to review their family leave and flexible working policies and ensure they are fully informed and keep up to date with these developments
