Agnipath Scheme Protests: Amid the rising demands for the scrapping of the newly launched Agnipath recruitment scheme for military, a senior Army officer on Sunday clarified that the programme will not be rolled back and said that it is the "only progressive step to make the country young"; amid protests against the centre's new scheme, Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra has said the new plan will "finish Army". Addressing the Congress's Satyagraha on the burning issue, she urged the protesters to continue their agitation peacefully and "topple" the government; the flood situation in the Northeast looks grim with Assam and Meghalaya emerging as the worst-hit. At least 42 people have died and nearly 40 lakh have been affected in both the states and other top stories.
