VFC doesn't believe in rest days while on vacation, so although the festivities of the night before had me hurting all day, I took a mountain drive from Chania to Sougia Crete (check out the Sougia video already posted in the library). After quickly exploring Sougia, I jumped on a boat to the ancient city of Lissos - historically one of Crete's most important cities.

In the days before Christ and beyond, Lissos was a famous and powerful city, attracting visitors from all over, in part due to a water spring that is said to rejuvenate the wounded, and everyone really, which makes me think maybe it used to spit out wine.

Lissos was an amazing experience - from swimming in the crystal clear waters of the beach, to hiking the impressive old cemetery, chapels, and old amphitheater, this place was just money. And having Cliff Claven along on the boat ride helped, as I had not researched the area much before my arrival. Good old Cliffy filled me in along the way.

I was a bit hungover on this day, so my decision to hike back over the mountain and through the gorge to Sougia would bite me in the ass. My dumb ass left my water bottle by the spring, so exposed to the sun just about the whole way with few trees and little to no shade sucked. It was rough, but so worth it. Especially when I reached the peak of the first mountain trail to see a Greek flag painted on the rocks. Money.

VFC's Pizza Tour continues, with Part 2 taking us to Nunzio's Pizzeria in Midland Beach, Staten Island, New York! This has been our "go to" place for years. The sauce is special, the crust has that crunch and the mozzarella cheese is just money! Love everything about Nunzio's!

We are keeping this pizza tour down to the basics - just a regular cheese slice. With NYC pizza, you don't need toppings. If you can't make a good cheese pie, then it's not pizza. Not to say the toppings are not good, too, but it's all about the foundation of the slice.

Again, special guest star is VFC's cousin Danielle, we share our love of pizza, and I'm pretty sure Nunzio's is her absolute favorite! Ah yeah.
