During the German invasion of Belgium (1914) the German soldiers killed around 6000 Belgian and Northern French citizens. Allied propaganda portrayed the Germans as evil Huns and used the war crimes for their own purposes. This is a lesser known chapter of the First World War which was overshadowed by later events.
