After breakfast drive to Punakha / Wangdue, on the way Stop at Dochu-La-Pass (3150 mts.), during clear days you will get a chance to see Himalayan mountain ranges of Bhutan. After noon visit Punakha Dzong (entry fee 1000) built in 1637 by Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyal. For many years until the time of the second king, it served as the seat of the Government. The Dzong was named Pungthang Dechen Phodrang (Palace of Great Happiness). Punakha is still the winter residence of monastic body. After that take a short hike to visit the Chii lhakang - The Temple, also known as replica of National Memorial chorten was built by HM The queen Mother Ashi Tshering Yangdon ( short hike of uphill 30 mins ) and on way back vist Suspension bridge.Sightseeing includes Ta Dzong (National Museum) (open throughout the week except Govt. Holiday. Timing: from 9:00 a.m to 4:00 p.m) - the first of its kind which has a collection from natural history to religious paintings and then walk down the trail to visit Rinpung Dzong (also known as Paro Dzong) which has a long and fascinating history. Afternoons proceed for sightseeing (Approx Time Frame: 2:00 p.m to 5:00 p.m) includes Drukgyel Dzong, the ruined fortress from where Bhutanese repelled several invasions by Tibetan armies. Later visit Kyichu Lhakhang, one of the oldest and most sacred shrines of the Kingdom. Evening stroll at Paro town and peep into some local handicraft’s stores. Return at hotel. Overnight at Paro.
