Sicily's Mount Etna, Europe's tallest and most active volcano, sent streams of red hot lava and ash plumes into the sky as it erupted overnight on 26 October. Seismologists detected some 15 small earthquakes on the Etna in the run-up to the eruption. This is the 14th time that Etna has erupted in 2013 with no injuries or damage reported.
