What started as a short story in an anthology series - and was almost a DC character - has grown through the years into one of the best and most popular comic franchises outside of Marvel and DC. The adventures of Hellboy have expanded to include stories of the Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense and solo stories of Abe Sapien, Lobster Johnson, Witchfinder, and a whole Universe of other characters, most often than not guided by the authorial mind of Mike Mignola and of unusually high-quality.
