Introduced in 1994, the WAP-4 Loco has brought about a revolution in Indian Railways. It's a direct development of WAP-1, WAP-2 and WAP-3 Locos. It's maximum power rating is 5050 Horsepower. It's traction motors are of Co-Co type arrangement. More than 750 units were produced by Indian Railways up until 2015 when it's production was stopped in favour of the 3 Phase Electric WAP-7 Class.
Despite being inferior to newer WAP-7 class locos, the WAP-4 holds a special place in the hearts of railfans as it is one of the most iconic Locos with its brick red livery. Now a days it is mostly being used with old ICF coaches as they do not have HOG technology. But it can be seen hauling many high priority LHB trains as well and still is a capable Loco even today.
Here is a small compilation of the WAP-4 led trains which I captured on the Mumbai - Surat section during my recent visit to Kelve Road station. I hope you enjoy this compilation.
