A Suffolk County police officer suffered critical injuries in a pursuit and crash on the Long Island Expressway. Authorities say Officer Brendon Gallagher was in the middle of an unrelated traffic stop when he noticed a driver speeding in a Mustang and pursued the car. Gallagher's vehicle was struck then went off the road and overturned during the pursuit. The officer was airlifted to Stony Brook University Medical Center where doctors say he was in severe shock and suffered extensive blood loss, among other severe injuries. Doctors say Gallagher, who was stabbed 3 years ago in the line of duty in Medford, is in the ICU on a ventilator.
