During the centuries and throughout History there have been many different execution methods used to take the life of someone who was sentenced to death. But there was one horrific and terrifying dungeon found inside of some medieval castles which was a death sentence as prisoners were simply forgotten about. The Oubliette translate into English as 'To Forget,' and prisoners were thrown into a cell which was incredibly cramped and so tight that they could not move at all. They were forced into one position for 24 hours a day, and this would cause psychological torture with the prisoner inside the oubliette.
To make the ordeal worse, the guards of the castle would sometimes throw waste and litter into the oubliette to bring about disease and infection. But some prisoners were thrown into the dungeon and they were then impaled by spikes which were at the bottom. Despite being a dungeon, the Oubliette was a death sentence and a method of execution as someone was slowly starved also inside. Some of the most famous oubliettes are found at Warwick Castle and Leap Castle, and the Tower of London also had a cell like this known as 'Little Ease.'
