Being drunk in charge of a motor vehicle is a different offence to drink driving and catches lots of people out. You don't have to be driving attempting to drive, or even in the motor vehicle to be drunk in charge or unfit to drive through drink. You could be next to your car, in the passenger seat, or asleep in the back. Drink driving is, of course, more serious, but both offences can have a devastating effect on your life.

Drink Drive limits:
England, Wales and Northern Ireland:
The alcohol limit for drivers is 80 milligrammes of alcohol per 100 millilitres of blood, 35 micrograms per 100 millilitres of breath, or 107 milligrammes per 100 millilitres of urine.3
Scotland:
The alcohol limit for drivers in Scotland has been different to the rest of the UK since 2014. The limit is 50 milligrammes of alcohol per 100 millilitres of blood, 22 micrograms of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath, and 67 milligrammes per 100 millilitres of urine.

In most other European countries, the limit is less, usually 50 milligrammes per 100 millilitres of blood.4
