From mysterious underwater structures to entire lost ship, here are some of amazing archaeological underwater discoveries.
Bimini Road
Discovered in 1968, the Bimini Road is an underwater rock formation near North Bimini island in the Bahamas. This impressive formation stretches half a mile along, with a pronounced hook at one end. The Bimini Road is made up of limestone blocks, most of them cut in a rectangular shape. The stones can measure up to 13 feet across. Many experts have been trying for years to discern whether the limestone blocks are a natural phenomenon or evidence of a lost ancient civilization. Some archaeologists have suggested that this could be a road to Atlantis.
Mysterious Stone Structure
A mysterious, circular structure discovered by divers about 30 feet underneath the Sea of Galilee in 2003. The structure is comprised of basalt rocks, arranged in the shape of a cone. It measures 230 feet at the base of the structure, is 32 feet tall, and weighs an estimated 60,000 tons. It is twice the size of the ancient stone circle at Stonehenge in England. Archaeologists has puzzled as to its purpose and even how long ago it was built.
Titanic
The wreck of the Titanic is lying approximately 3,800 metres at the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean was discovered in 1985. The ship broke in two pieces which about 600 meters apart. Although the bow was damaged when it hit the sea floor, much of its interior can be identified as well preserved. In contrast, the stern is completely ruined. Titanic was a British luxury steamship that sank in 1912 after hitting an iceberg, killing more than 1,500 passengers and crew.
Bronze Age shipwreck
One of the world's oldest wrecked vessel has been discovered off the coast of Devon. It had been lying on the seabed for almost 3,000 years. The Bronze Age boat was loaded with more than 250 copper blades, tin ingots, a bronze sword and several gold jewels. This may not be a very rich discovery, but it surprised historians because it revealed that Britain's connections to the continent, and the skills of sailors, were more developed than we thought.
