Asbyrgi is a pretty glacial canyon in northern Iceland. It seems to be quite popular with the Icelanders. I think it is pleasant for its warm sunshine (in July), tree cover, and wildflowers. South of Asbyrgi one comes across Dettifoss, one of the most powerful waterfalls in the country. The landscape between the parking area and the falls is austere and moon-like. Once one gets to the falls, one is overwhelmed by the sheer volume of water cascading downwards. The spray seems to go for kilometers... which on a sunny day like mine, creates gorgeous rainbows (although one must constantly wipe off the camera lens....). One is reminded of how small we human beings are when we come across a natural wonder such as Dettifoss... simply awesome! I chose the song "Lucky" by Brenda Russell as it is a happy tune. Sometimes we forget how lucky and blessed we are just to be able to travel and see such wonderful sights such as these in Northern Iceland.
