Junk Journal Junkies Challenge #3: 4"x4" string bound gel print, repurposed envelopes ....
Here is my challenge #3 for Junk Journal Junkies. Here is a little bitty journal, square, 4"x4" .... love square! As with nearly all of my journals these days, it's filled with monoprints and repurposed security envelope stock.
I settled in on 4"x4" for a very good reason.... Envelopes, cut down, tend to measure 4"x8". Folded in half, of course, makes 4"x4". So, all my other sheets were also cut down to 4"x8" to be part of the book.
Here we have 10 signatures, each with 8 sheets, ie.: 32 pages. All together, we have a 320 page book!
What's new for me on this one is a stitched binding. As I mention in the video, I was about to put a cover on this little guy but thought twice about that once I took a look at the spine edge. I loved the look of the signatures in a row on the spine and did not want to cover them up. They look like a row of candy cigarettes! And I thought that was kind of fun.
I will probably put a cover on this little guy in the future. Meanwhile, it's a joy to flip through and hold in the palm of your hand. I love how you can fan it out and even enjoy it with a top-down view.
FYI: on the backs of the security papers I use in this journal, I put down a layer of gel-plate printing, pastel colors to facilitate journaling.
I use a lot of textures in my gel plate printing. I made a video showing some of those texture implements, which I've come across lately, including stencils, textured silicone trivets, plastic rubbing plates, stylists, burnishers, scrapers, and everyday household objects (such as scouring pads, spool cores, cosmetic sponges, and "silver"ware.
