What time period is classified as ancient Egypt? The Ancient Egyptian era began approximately in 3100 BC. Through the course of history Egypt was invaded and conquered many times by many different nations, the most notable being a Greek conqueror named Alexander the Great. The ancient era concluded in 30 BC. after the death of the last Greek pharaoh, Cleopatra 7th. After Cleopatra's death Egypt was taken by Octavian later know as Cesar Augustus and it became a province in the new Roman Empire.
