While visiting Belgium and the Université Libre de Bruxelles (ULB) in 1994, the Minister of National Education of Vietnam showed high interest in post-graduate management programs organized by the Solvay Brussels School of Economics and Management (SBS-EM). The very same year professor Jacques Nagels flew to Vietnam with the support of the French-speaking community of Belgium (CGRI and APEFE) to investigate opportunities of partnership with Vietnamese universities. He signed a first agreement between SBS-em (part of ULB) and Open University of Ho Chi Minh City (OU) to start up a Part time MBA program in General Management.
In January 1995 the first course was taught by a Belgian professor, Prof. Anne Drumaux.
In January 1996, another agreement was signed between SBS-em and the Postgraduate Faculty of National Economic University in Hanoi (NEU) to create a Part time MBA program.
Cooperation with both Vietnamese partners extended with the creation of a Master in Public Management in Hanoi (MPM) and a Master in Business and Marketing Management in Ho Chi Minh City (MBMM).
In 2005, the program of Master of Quality Management was first introduced. Then it was upgraded in 2007 and called Master in Business Quality and Performance Management (MBQPM)
2010 saw the upgrade of the MBA program, as version 2.1 making it more advanced and business-oriented
In 2012, the two specialised master programs, being Master in Management of Banking and Finance (MMBF) and Master in Marketing and Communication Management (MMCoM) were launched in Hanoi for the first time.
As of today more than 2,000 Vietnamese students have graduated from our MBA programs. Most of them now hold key positions in Vietnamese institutions and companies. More than 100 European professors are teaching at our partner universities every year, some of them with over 10 years experience teaching in Vietnam.
