Where the barbecue grill burner installs onto the control valve orifice inside the control panel there is a adjustable air shutter on the burner. Usually Natural Gas burners do not need the air shutter open very much but Propane barbecues need the air shutter to act as a carburetor: mixing gas and air to make the vaporized propane flammable.
Flames on the burner should be 1 to 1.5 inches tall and should be blue with a yellow or orange tip. This is a generalization, an average that is true for many barbecue models although not all BBQ grills. Adjusting the air mixture is something usually best left to a trained technician and is not usually necessary unless the orifices or the burner has been replaced.
To adjust the mixture of gas and air in the burner we remove the control panel and loosen the set-screw on the adjustable slider while the grill is burning. This way we can see the effect on the flame a few seconds after making minute adjustments with the sliding adjustment on the burner.
Once the flame is perfect we tighten the set screw to lock the adjustable air shutter in place and replace the control panel. As with anything else, if you need assistance you can always contact
