The Zagreb Train Disaster of 1974
A Tragic Event
On August 30, 1974, a devastating train crash occurred near Zagreb Main Station in Yugoslavia (now Croatia). An express train traveling from Belgrade to Dortmund derailed before entering the station, resulting in a horrific collision that claimed the lives of 153 people.
The train, traveling at excessive speed, crashed into the platform and derailed. The wreckage was catastrophic, with bodies scattered across the scene and metal twisted into unrecognizable shapes. The accident was exacerbated by the fact that the train brought down power lines, electrocuting some of the passengers.
The Aftermath
The disaster was a national tragedy for Yugoslavia, and the aftermath was marked by grief, shock, and a search for answers. Investigations into the cause of the accident were conducted, but the exact circumstances that led to the derailment remain a subject of debate.
Legacy
