Jary the 22-year-old Great Pied Hornbill lives at the Jurong Bird Park in Singapore and had the 46g (1.6 oz) prosthetic fitted when vets discovered a gash on his beak caused by a potentially fatal cancer. The bird was given the name Jary because it means 'helmeted warrior' in the ancient Norse language and it the prosthetic will remain in place until he grows another casque of his own.
