Behold the Lamb of God is perhaps a common phrase we hear amid Christian circles. But, what would "Behold the Lamb of God" have meant in 1st century Judaism when John the Baptist said this of Jesus in John 1?
What is the relationship between the Passover lamb, deliverance, and rescue over death that John the Baptist is directing our focus towards? And, what would this have meant about Jesus since the Israelites had to eat the Passover lamb in order to be saved? Will the same be true of Jesus? Will we have to somehow eat this new "Lamb of God"?
