France has accused Australia of "breaking the relationship of trust" between the two countries in a phone call.
This was the first call between Prime Minister Scott Morrison and French President Emmanuel Macron since the submarine contract was scrapped.
The diplomatic relationship with France is yet to be salvaged, but the lengths the Australian government has gone to in an attempt to fix it were made public.
Mr Morrison wrote a personal letter to Mr Macron, with the French president calling before Mr Morrison left for the G20 summit, delaying his departure by approximately 30 minutes.
