Star Bowers reading at Poetry Speaks at the Toledo -Lucas County Public Library on October 26, 2010.
Star Bowers lives in Toledo. Given economic reality, she, like so many poets from the urban, industrial Midwest, has adapted to living on the margins. "Kicked out of the house at 17," throughout much of her adult life she has lived below the poverty line, several times overcoming homelessness. Bowers' street smart poems reflect both harsh realities and fundamental satisfactions. A mother and grandmother, for a number of years she co-edited a literary periodical called Poked with Sticks. This is her first book-length collection of poems.
