Storm chasers catch unique tornado formation caught on camera.
Tornadoes form from powerful thunderstorms, known as supercell thunderstorms, that contain rotating columns of air. When the updrafts and downdrafts within a thunderstorm create a rotating column of air, it can begin to stretch vertically, causing the column to become more intense and spin faster.
As the spinning column of air becomes more intense, it may become visible as a funnel cloud, which is the first stage of a tornado. If the funnel cloud makes contact with the ground, it becomes a tornado.
Tornadoes are most common in the United States, particularly in the central and southern plains, but they can occur in other parts of the world as well. They are typically associated with severe thunderstorms and can cause significant damage due to their high winds and potential for strong winds and debris. #tornado #severeweather #weather
