The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion consists of 26 songs of varying length, composed by Jeremy Soule, who also composed the soundtrack to the previous game in the Elder Scrolls series, The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind.
Its total length is 58 minutes 40 seconds.
The music varies from slow, "exploration" themes to faster, "battle" themes.
It is often easy to tell when an enemy sees the player character because the music will change sharply.
Jeremy's brother, Julian Soule, was also involved in the composition of the soundtrack.
Soule stated that while composing the music he did not imagine any specific characters or events; rather, he wanted it "to comment on the human condition and the beauty of life".
Parts of the Oblivion soundtrack has been performed live by a full orchestra at a concert on the PLAY! A Video Game Symphony tour.
And at the 2006 MTV Video Music Awards, the soundtrack won in the Best Video Game Score category over the soundtrack for games such as Hitman: Blood Money, and Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter.
