The Sebu 7 falls zipline located in Cotabato, Philippines, is the longest zipline in all of Asia, and stretches through 7 amazing waterfalls. In this "Land of the Dreamweavers" the beauty here is profound, so I thought if I was going to pop my ziplining cherry, this would be a great place to do it.
It actually was the worst mistake I ever made.
Mind you, I've rock climbed, jumped out of planes, and even ate raw fish in an alley in Cambodia, and none of these frightening experiences even came remotely close to the intense fear I had ziplining in the Philippines.
First of all, it's cheap. Too cheap. I'm from NYC, so if something is too good to be true, then it's a fugazi. I want to pay premium prices for risking my life.
Second, I'm not sure who builds, or runs it, but it doesn't look like some department came to see if it was, say, up to code. Rather it looks like some guy was like "Hey. I got like 2 miles of this cable. Whatcha think we should do with it" and so it became a business.
Third... they literally just throw you in a harness like a cattle being helivaced out of a flood and then push you on your way. You barrel 300 meters up at what seems is 60 mph for over 740 meters ... thats half a mile ... plenty of time to fill your diaper several time. And best part is they don't tell you how to stop so you think you're going to fly right into a wall. Sublime.
All in all it was absolutely one of the scariest things I've ever done, and I would do it again in a heartbeat. I highly suggest checking out this region of the Philippines, it's not tourested much at all, and has a rich, vibrant and welcoming culture, that loves to scare the pants off you.
