M113 Gavin 2D Maneuver Cavalry in Iraq
One of the concepts cowards who want to only be part of main bodies stampeding in medium-to-heavy tanks (called: whoppertanktards, mech-ps etc.) can't seem to understand is CAVALRY.
CAVALRY must be MORE MOBILE than the main body in order to make FIRST CONTACT with both the terrain (The Battle Against the Earth) and the enemy (The Battle Against Man). Even main bodies saddled with medium-weight, 33-ton bloated Bradleys and uber-heavy 70-ton M1 Abrams tanks maneuvering in OPEN TERRAIN in two-dimensions (2D) must have a CAVALRY in light tanks like M113 Gavins to operate ahead to ascertain and develop the situation--not slam into it. Otherwise, the main body could drive into NO-GO terrain for its higher ground pressure vehicles and get stuck and/or get ambushed and decisively engaged.

Of course, GOOD LIGHT MECHANIZED CAVALRY is AIR-MECHANIZED: able to fly by available aircraft (C-27Js, C-130s, CH-47s etc.) to effect three-dimensional (3D) maneuver over TBATE, TBAM obstacles--like M113 Gavins CAN and Stryker trucks CANNOT.
