Last August I built my perfect Quake 2 machine with parts from 1997 and 1998: A Pentium MMX with 233MHz and Dual Voodoo² SLI.
Since then I got some comments that said the GPUs are terribly bottlenecked by the CPU. I decided to investigate!
When I built the machine, I couldn't get hold of an appropriate CD-ROM drive that was actually available back then, so I'm replacing that with a proper 32X speed drive in this video, too.
And I could never get the Joystick working with the cheap Creative Labs Vibra16C soundcard. So I'm putting a slightly less cheap Creative Labs Sound Blaster AWE 32 Value model in there and while I'm at it also explain what IRQ, DMA and IO port settings on the sound card actually mean.
