STORYLINE
Israeli jets continued to strike the southern Beirut suburb of Dahieh, a Hezbollah stronghold already devastated by previous attacks, throughout Friday.
It was the second wave of airstrikes on the Lebanese capital on Friday.
At least 20 powerful explosions resounded across Beirut early in the morning.
It could not immediately be determined what was hit, and there were no immediate reports of casualties.
As the pounding went on, Lebanese Prime Minister Fuad Saniora met again with US Undersecretary of State David Welch at the Grand Serail, Lebanon's seat of government, in central Beirut.
The United States and France are said to be close to a deal on a United Nations (UN) Security Council resolution aimed at ending the month-long Israeli offensive in Lebanon and its conflict with Hezbollah.
But diplomats say there are still some Lebanese objections to the draft.
Diplomatic efforts had stalled as the Lebanese called for Israeli troops to start pulling out once hostilities ended and Beirut sent 15,000 troops of its own to the south of the country.
Israel has insisted on staying in southern Lebanon until a robust international force is deployed, which could take weeks or months.
