After continuously attempting to push a separatist movement from the church of England within a settlement comfortable to remain underneath it, a Puritan family is banished from their home and sent out into the woods to find their own way, only to find themselves subject to the wickedness that exists within the forest. Robert Eggers' first feature length film released in 2015 and was designed to reflect the purest nightmare of Puritan society, using very old-school imagery, writing, and thematic material reflective of Puritan folklore about witches.
