Explore the vibrant neighborhoods in Palm Beach County with a focus on hometown favorites. From the newest city in the county, to uncovering the history of early settlers, and visiting favorite local hotspots. Frank also visits community groups who are working to strengthen bonds among neighbors.
First, Frank heads West to the newest and fastest-growing city in Palm Beach County, Westlake. Mayor John Paul O’Connor shows Frank around this bustling city amid growth and new construction. The city and the commission are focused on forward thinking and building for the future. Then, Frank stops at Gator’s Shack restaurant just outside of Westlake for some truly authentic Florida dining. At this hometown favorite, gator tails and frog legs are served with a specialty spicy “swamp sauce” are on the menu.
Visit Wellington for a unique neighborhood: Wellington Aero Club. The Aero Club includes 240 homes and a centralized private paved runway. Many homes also include private hangers, and residents have formed a tight social group around their love for aviation. Then, it’s off to Taylor Made Café in Wellington for a healthy and nutritious meal. Founder Taylor Hughes was once active in the equestrian community and realized that healthy food options were not readily available to the participants. Years later, she has built her self-taught cooking skills and creative approach to flavor into a full restaurant. Taylor Made Café serves breakfast, lunch, dinner, and catering options – all with a focus on nutrition and whole, healthy meals.
At the Boca Raton Historical Society, the history and stories of the city are well preserved. The Schmidt Boca Raton History Museum is home to exhibits that bring the history alive with a combination of artifacts, photographs, and storytelling. Plus, knowledgeable docents are always ready to answer any questions. Frank stops in at Norman Love Confections in Delray Beach for a sweet treat. The luxury chocolatier specializes in unique chocolate creations and decorated creations that look like art. Specialty flavors like Florida Orange taste as good as they look!
Frank gets his feet wet at WTFish Lounge in Delray Beach for a unique fish pedicure experience. They fish spa has become a local favorite with a combination of fun, novelty, relaxation, and a relaxing foot exfoliation. In downtown West Palm Beach, Frank hears about a new public art project: “A Community Portrait: West Palm Beach.” Portrait photographs were taken across the city, and the photos will be enlarged and installed at various locations. The end effect is a huge, city-wide family photo.
The Chamber Music Society of Palm Beach is creating their own sense of community around the love of music. The tradition of chamber music might be old, but its traditions of music and social gathering are alive in the Palm Beaches. The group hosts world-class musicians for concert series that inspire. Finally, Girls Who Walk West Palm Beach is a friendly social walking group that helps to build friendship and strengthen neighborly bonds. The no-commitment group meets for several walks a month across the area. Members find a safe, welcoming group to meet people, all while getting in their daily steps!
