Today in music history, marks the 55th anniversary of Motown's very first TV special titled "TCB (Taking Care Of Business)," featuring The Temptations and Diana Ross & The Supremes! The "TCB" album was released on this day back in 1968.
This Motown special that featured two of the hottest groups in the world, them being the Tempts and the Supremes, joined forces in the "TCB" TV special that aired on a week after the album release on December 9, 1968 on. The week before, they released the full live album on December 2. The show was sponsored by Timex watch corporation and aired on NBC. Both groups shared a variety of classics, including "Stop In The Name Of Love!," "You Keep Me Hangin' On," "Get Ready," "My Girl," and more. Then, they later performed medleys like "Do You Know The Way To San Jose," "A Taste Of Honey," their cover of "Respect" by both Otis Redding and Aretha Franklin. But the one performance that really made the crowd go in silence was when Temptations Paul Williams took over with his heartfelt performance of "For Once In My Life."
Not only was this the first Motown TV special, but this was the first time the world was introduced to the Temptations newest addition at the time live on television, named Dennis Edwards. Dennis would make a name for himself when he took the lead on "(I Know) I'm Losing You" and blew the whole crowd up! He set the tone that he was no David Ruffin, but he sure was Mr. Dennis Edwards!
This special is a straight classic! It's fun to watch two Motown legends joined together for a TV special that would last for generations. One of the most iconic moments in history!
