Major League Jiu Jitsu is a team v. team professional jiu jitsu league. MLJJ is an 8 team jiu jitsu tournament of 8 of the best jiu jitsu academies in Florida, consisting of 5 individual matches in each team v. team match. The weight classes for each match are 155, 170, 185, 205, and 205+, and each team is limited to 2 brown belts. Matches are 5 minutes each, the first 2:30 no scoring, second 2:30 scoring. If the match is tied after 5 minutes, there will be a 1 minute overtime match. If no scoring in overtime, there will be a judge's decision by the 3 judges.
Teams can have up to 10 grapplers on their roster, although only 5 will compete in each match. At the beginning of each team v. team match, a coin flip will determine which team selects the first grappler, and whether that match will be a gi, or a no-gi match. Once the first grappler selects gi or no-gi, the other team will choose their grappler. Choice then alternates back and forth for the remaining 4 matches.
If a grappler wins by less than 8 points, his team receives 3 points. If a grappler wins by 8 or more points, his team receives 4 points. If a grappler wins by submission, his team will receive 6 points. An injury default or forfeit is also worth 6 team points.
