We did a road trip from Atlanta to Canada over a 2 week period. Total miles driven was 4111 over this timeframe with a mixture of highway and city driving.

On our best tank, we spent over 2 hours sitting in Boston and NYC traffic. I am sure we would have been closer to 850-900 miles on the tank if not for the Boston and NYC traffic.

I am happy with the results for a car of this size and the MPG I was able to get over the 4100+ mile trip. The 2006 Mercedes E320 CDI W211 does not disappoint for road trips.
