Korea′s Ministry of National Defense will meet later on this Monday to discuss ways to reform the military after a slew of violent incidents at front-line barracks, including the recent bullying death of a young Army conscript.
A government official says a military culture reformation committee will talk about ways to change the military judicial system as well as the possible establishment of a military ombudsman at the National Assembly.
The committee consists 113 military experts, including Defense Minister Han Min-koo.
The death of the army private who was beaten to death in April as well as a suicide case of a soldier who required "extra attention" that shot himself during a live-fire exercise sparked a debate about harassment and the general culture in Korea′s military.
