Meet Jake Ricker, a San Francisco street photographer and a self-proclaimed all-or-nothing guy, who has spent the last six years–increasing in frequency over time–documenting the Golden Gate Bridge on 35 mm film. Since 2020, Ricker has spent 10 hours a day, 7 days a week at the iconic landmark snapping photos.
Through his work, Ricker has witnessed the full spectrum of humanity on the small sliver of sidewalk that spans the bridge, from marriage proposals to fiery protests to lost souls drawn to the bridge at low points in their lives.
“Anything can happen at any time,” Ricker says. “If you just kind of post up in one spot and let the world come to you or pass you by, it’s kind of wild what things unfold in front of you.”
