If you received a copyright complaint while selling online, the chances are that you have come across the DMCA or Digital Millennium Copyright Act.
The DMCA counter notice procedure provides complaint recipients with protection from a wrongful claim of copyright infringement. Essentially, sellers will provide identifying information and state, under penalty of perjury, that they have a good faith belief that the material was wrongly removed. Amazon will then notify the complainant that the content will be restored unless evidence is provided that a lawsuit was filed within ten business days. In other words, once the counter notice is accepted, there is a ten business day waiting period before the listing is reinstated.
If the counter notice is successful, it is very effective in getting the complaint cleanly removed.
