We live in the midst of the “Fourth Industrial Revolution,” when technology is altering our current systems of production, distribution and consumption at an unprecedented pace. At the heart of this revolution lies cloud computing, which makes possible innovations in the physical, biological and digital worlds. This technology is creating tremendous opportunity worldwide, but up to 60% of the world’s citizens today remain excluded from the benefits of the digital economy.
How do we ensure that technology is used to solve the world’s thorniest problems? Last September, a meeting of 193 world leaders led to a commitment to 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as set forth by the United Nations. Over the next 15 years, governments and organizations will be working together to end extreme poverty, address environmental degradation and climate change, and fight inequality and injustice.
What role can the private sector play? How can a leading tech company, which aspires to be a global leader in driving digital transformation to enable social and economic benefits for all, support the UN SDGs?
Join us for an exciting session in which Microsoft’s Toni Townes-Whitley will talk about a “cloud for global good” and Microsoft’s commitment to support 8 of the UN SDGs: Good Health and Well-Being; Quality Education; Gender Equality; Decent Work and Economic Growth; Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure; Sustainable Cities and Communities; Climate Action; and Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions.
Ms Townes-Whitley will be joined by Minister Tan Chuan-Jin and Dr. Parag Khanna in discussing the implications of today’s technology for security, the economy, and the creation of a more just and prosperous life for Asia and the world.
