Oregon Gov. Kate Brown says her goal has been to deescalate the nightly confrontations in downtown Portland that ramped up after federal officers arrived in Portland.
"Last night, the world was watching Portland," she said. "And here's what they saw: Federal troops left downtown, local officials protected free speech and Oregonians spoke out for racial justice and police accountability."
She said Oregon State Police will continue to focus on protecting free speech and protecting the public as they call for change.
