THE TARSIER || The world's smallest primate. Are they really venomous?
The tarsier is a small, nocturnal primate that is native to Southeast Asia. They are known for their large eyes, which are each approximately the same size as their brain. Tarsiers are variously classified as prosimians or as strepsirrhines within the order Primates, depending on the classification scheme being used.
Tarsiers have a unique skeletal structure that allows them to rotate their heads nearly 180 degrees in either direction, which helps them to locate prey and avoid predators. They are also able to leap up to 40 times their body length from tree to tree, using their long hind legs for propulsion.
There are several different species of tarsiers, and they are all considered to be threatened or endangered due to habitat loss and fragmentation. Tarsiers are also sometimes captured for the pet trade, which further threatens their survival.
