Besides having their own UK TV series 'Making Whoopee' for London Weekend Television in 1970, The Whoopee Band performed on numerous television shows throughout Europe. This typical live show in front of an audience is a half-hour spot on Swedish (ATR 4) television from 1978, so expect some politically incorrect moments here and there!
(In English with Swedish subtitles).
Bob Kerr's Whoopee Band performed all over UK and Europe during the time I was with them, between 1968 to 1978. Known for their comedy, they were also accomplished musicians. Their musical influences were based on jazz styles such as Louis Armstrong, George Gershwin and Spike Jones, though they would not shy away from the classics (Bizet's 'Carmen', Ketelby's 'In A Persian Market') and more contemporary rock and pop (Beatles 'Lady Madonna').
Line-up: Bob Kerr - leader, cornet, trombone, sax, vocals (ex-New Vaudeville Band); Jim Chambers - alto sax and vocals; Vernon Dudley Bowhay Nowell - banjo (ex-Bonzo Dog Band); John Gieves Watson - banjo (ex-Temperance Seven); Biff Harrison - banjo, accordion and stroh viol; Dave Glasson - piano; Frank Tomes - sousaphone; Sam Spoons (ex-Bonzo Dog Band) - drums and rhythm pole.
