Well, I had a little part of JENOVA in the original FFVII Medley that I did back in 2010. I didn't originally plan on bringing it back and making a full song out of it. However, after playing around with it for a little bit, I got on a roll and cranked out the majority of the song in one sitting. After a few revisions to certain parts, we feel that turned out to be one of the strongest tracks on the cd, and we all agreed that this song HAD to be part of our live set.
It's funny, one of the main reasons I never thought I would bring this song back was because how hard it was to play the main JENOVA 8 note melody cleanly. When I was trying to make it work for the cd, Wilbanks and I discussed splitting it in half, I play one part and he plays the other. So we took that idea and brought it back for the outro, but added 8 open B flat notes to the riff. We have it so Wilbanks plays the higher half, and I (Taylor), play the lower half (same as it's played after the intro). We structured it so he plays the open B flat notes after he plays the first 4 (high)JENOVA notes, and I play the open B flat notes before the last 4 (low) JENOVA notes. So if you listen to JUST the JENOVA notes, all 8 are being played like they're supposed to, supported with some B flat riffage. The kick drum and bass are playing a precursor to the very end, which is sort of a continuation of the previous part, but with the JENOVA notes taken out. We also "scooted" the riff over by a 16th note, making it a little weird...with a touch of "groove", if you will. I hope everyone likes rocking out to that last part it as much as we enjoy playing it!
