(15 Mar 2017) Roads were blocked in the Libyan capital, Tripoli on Wednesday following a day of violent clashes between rival militias across the city on Tuesday.
Convoys of police and armed security personnel loyal to the UN-backed government were deployed to the streets on Wednesday.
According to eye witnesses, militiamen loyal to the UN-backed government battled with forces from the western city of Misrata.
Tensions are high in Tripoli, where armed groups have been deployed to the city for several weeks now.
The friction between the groups has grown considerably with a recent escalation of killings and kidnappings in the capital.
Libya has descended into chaos since the 2011 civil war, which ended with the killing of the longtime dictator Moammar Gadhafi.
The country has been split into two competing parliaments and governments, each backed by a set of militias, tribes and political factions.
