Haywood County schools were closed Tuesday and some parents and kids are already dreading the makeup day. The makeup day will be this Saturday, November 3rd. School officials want to make up the snow day as soon as possible to make sure school gets out on time at the end of the year. But some parents who already had weekend plans say Saturday school is not the answer."We need stronger families, and this is part of it. You take away our saturday mornings and you're taking away family time, " said Angel Hooper. Haywood misses 8 days of school on average a year. A committee of 20 people including parents and teachers decided Saturday school is the best makeup option. Most parents like the lady we talked to have no say on the issue.Superintendent Ann Garrett says teachers will work with the students who can't make it to school this Saturday by giving them the work they need to make up. However, it will still count as an excused absence. Saturday school will begin at 8 a.m. with normal bus routes and end at noon with lunch.
